The end is Nigh-ish!
Part one - complete. Part two - complete. Part three complete. Part four - Compl...in progress.
But it's getting down to the nitty-gritty now. I'm at page 423 of 536. That's just a hair shy of 79%. Or a strong B+ if you're in into academics.
Less than a month ago I was struggling to hit 350, and then boom - work, work, work and voila - a little over a hundred pages left. Put another way, I've got exactly 10 chapters remaining. If I count the epilogue. And I do - it's a bit meatier than most. I don't like 2 page endings. I like a decent close - I really appreciate endings that feel like real endings. Not a cliff-hanger, not an intro into the next book or a couple of paragraphs saying 'well, that's that'. (I'll put a caveat here: I know there are good reasons for employing those devices, and just because I say I don't like it doesn't mean I don't enjoy those stories. Often I do, especially when you add a bit at the end to settle the dust.)
Naturally, as I come towards the end of this project, I've been thinking about what to do next. Obviously I have to submit this thing - look for a publisher/agent. And I'll keep posting about that process as it develops. Then there's promotion and so on. But I'd also like to do a few on the tools of the trade - what I use to write, how I approach plotting and so on. Might be interesting.
So, I hope you'll stick around. I feel great knowing there are a few brave souls out there reading this. As always, thank you. For reading and for stopping by.
