Feedback and what to do with it
Hi all,
It's been awhile. I've been in job hell for the past bit, so my hobbies have sadly taken a backseat to that. However, since I finished the manuscript, I've been asking those willing to read it about what things I could do better - how it holds together - anything odd or unusual or that just doesn't fit?
So far, opinions are mixed. On the one hand, a person who's opinion I trust as much as my own has said that at first they went into reading the book with an intent not to like it, since I'd asked for constructive criticism. However, he couldn't put it down and finished it off fairly quickly. High praise from someone like that, and I thank him for investing the time in my pet project.
At the same time, another person who's opinion I trust just as much has highlighted some problems with the second half of the novel. Problems in the sense that the writing is uneven - written somewhat 'less good' than the previous bit. I'm inclined to agree, since I'm never satisfied with my writing. It could always be better.
So here I am, based on that, revising the second half again. Luckily, it's going much quicker this time. In the space of a month and a bit, I've gone in about 200 pages. That's significantly faster than the last time (something like five times quicker). If this keeps up, I should be ready to submit by the summertime.
Wish me luck. And thanks for reading!
