New Site - New Format - New Mission!

Hello all,

Well, my two blogs have been silent for quite some time.  UnityHQ and GuySaysWhat haven't had any new posts since last year, and I've been warring with myself on why that is.

There really isn't too much of a question here:  I've been lazy.  Normally I'm a bit more focused than I have been.  So if you've stopped by every now and again just to see what I'm putting out, and have been disappointed, I'm sorry about that.

However, I have a few reasons for this state of affairs.  First, I've changed jobs three times in the past year.  Each successive position has been a move up.  And while I work in the legal realm (on the government side of things), I'm more administrator than specialist - which means I've had to adapt to three different environments in relatively short intervals.

Add to that something of an insane commute, a general lack of sleep for whatever reason and the fact that I don't get paid for any of this (in other words, my first priority is paying the bills), and here I am.

So that takes care of the internals.

Now on to the disadvantages of running multiple blogs.  First off, I understand that blogs are best suited to a single topic - social media experts (people who actually get paid to do this stuff) are big on the idea of either doing one thing that no one else is doing or, if that isn't possible, doing whatever you're going to do really, really well.  Just as I'm a bit of a generalist in my profession, so too am I that in my hobbies and pursuits.  Science fiction, current events, history, fantasy and so on - I like all of those topics.  I like short stories and novels, fiction and non-fiction, technology and tradition.  I'm all over the place, frankly.

That's why I've decided to amalgamate everything into a single, complete package.  The fact of the matter is, I need a single space where I can:

  1. Keep updates on my writing coming;
  2. Make announcements and mark important milestones; and
  3. Talk about things that interest me.
So that's what this site is about.  My first semi-professional online space, for the brand that is me...

I'm going to pull everything together from my other blogs - for a couple of reasons.  First, I don't believe in partitioning my experiences.  I am who I am, and trying to lock bits and pieces of myself into different URLs hasn't ever felt right.  Second, it's more convenient.  I only have so much free time, and I'd rather spend it working on a project than fiddling with a couple of different design/thematic templates.

Hopefully it'll be better for you as well, since there's not much point otherwise.

All the best.
